USIT School Tours Blog - Rome with Karen

Karen, one of our tour coordinators here at usit school tours, took a trip to Rome. here's how she got on in the eternal city.

While visiting Rome, there was never a dull moment as there’s so much to see and do. As it was my first time here and I had a few days to sightsee, I wanted to go and see the infamous sites that Rome is known for.

When in Rome...

First off was the Colosseum, as you all know it is one of the seven wonders of the world and after seeing it in person it is clear to see why! Once you see it you have to sit and stare in awe for a while, then if you are like me take a million pictures of it! The Colosseum is beside The Roman Forums and Palatine Hill, so a tour around the ancient ruins can be done quite easily between the three. The views from these landmarks are incredible so I would recommend visiting all three when you’re around the area, you won’t forget it! Rome Rose Garden across from the Circus Maximus is also a lovely park filled with roses where you can relax and unwind after all the exploring around the area.

Vatican City...a sight to behold!

Whilst on the trip, I dedicated a day to visit Vatican City. This was probably my favourite just because I was blown away at the beauty of the architecture of the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. It was great to get a glimpse of the art and history that makes up the culture of the Vatican. I don’t think I have the words to describe how amazing inside the Vatican is – everything is gold plated and expensive-looking, it really is a sight to behold! Though it is quite a trek up to the dome in St. Peter’s Basilica, (well over 500 steps in total) it is 100% worth it for the views at the top, incredible!

Food...glorious food...

It would be a sin not to mention the food in Rome, you can’t visit Rome without eating gelato and gorging on pizza and pasta! Eating these delicious foods al fresco is the way to do it in my opinion. If you are in any way a big foodie you will love the Italian cuisine!

A visit to the Eternal City should be on everyone’s list! Don’t forget to throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure your return!!
